The number of private-sector workplace injuries continues to decline both on a national and statewide level. The Massachusetts Division of Occupational Safety reported a total of 87,900 nonfatal injuries and illnesses in the Commonwealth in 2006, according to a recent issue of the Boston Business Journal ("Workplace injuries decrease in Mass" 1/9/08). This equates to a rate of 3.9 cases per 100 full-time equivalent employees. While this is lower than the national incidence rate of 4.4 cases per 100, it is still out-paced by the Genesis client rate of 3.5 cases per 100.
This is great news for Genesis client companies and employees. This proves that workplace injuries are not inevitable. Preventing injuries helps Genesis client companies keep employees productive while avoiding significant and growing costs.
